Years ago I was a team lead at a growing startup.

My VP said “keep interviewing and hiring good developers and I’ll tell you when to stop.”

So, I interviewed multiple developers every week for months.

After interviewing dozens of developers, I realized:

1. I didn’t care how people dressed. I cared about how they communicated.

2. I didn’t care if they went to school. I cared about what they knew.

3. I didn’t care where they worked previously. I cared if they could clearly convey their specific contributions.

4. I didn’t care if they were junior. I cared if they were curious and excited to grow.
