I’ve seen some teams fail to successfully create design systems and component libraries.

Mistakes:

❌ Poor docs

❌ Allowing designers/devs to ignore the design system in new apps

❌ No full-time component library support staff

❌ Management doesn’t embrace and encourage it

To successfully create design systems and component libraries:

✅ Create comprehensive docs

✅ Assure designers use the design system in all designs

✅ Hire full-time support staff for the component library

✅ Encourage and support usage at all management levels
