Early in my career, my boss asked me to email all our customers. I used a while loop…and forgot to increment the counter.
The script emailed all our customers in an infinite loop!
By the time I realized my mistake, each customer had received 75 copies of the same email.
Why “only” 75? Because we ran out of credits at our email provider, so they shut it down.
This mistake marked us as a spammer, and took months to sort out.
We sent these emails on behalf of a client. Their phones rang for days. Amazingly, they didn’t fire us, and I kept my job.
