You don’t have to work overtime to get ahead.
I started my career as “Associate Software Engineer”
Over the years I got consistent raises and promotions:
Software Engineer
Senior Developer
Software Architect
Principal Engineer
My salary grew by 4x.
I rarely worked overtime.
That said, I admittedly put a lot of time in outside of my job reading, experimenting, and learning. And I focused and pushed hard at work to make the most of my office time. Knowing I had “only” 40 hours to do my job well kept me focused at work.
