Why I prefer videos over live teaching/webinars: 1
Why I prefer videos over live teaching/webinars:
1. Carefully edited (typically)
2. I can pause it
3. No delays from people having issues
4. I can watch at 2x
5. I can jump around
6. I can decide when to consume it
7. I can review ratings/comments to decide if it's worth viewing
Rare cases where I watch live:
1. It’s a big announcement
2. The speaker is doing Q&A and I can’t communicate with them in another way
3. The content won’t be available via recording
4. I want to be part of a shared experience
So, while I enjoy speaking at conferences, I rarely attend recorded sessions. I prefer to watch sessions later if they’re recorded.
I speak because I want to:
✅ Get in free
✅ Talk tech with smart people
✅ Socialize at meals and parties
Oh my, I forgot to mention the biggest reason I speak: I have something I'm excited about that I want to teach others.
Side note: For anyone considering getting into speaking, I created this speaker starter kit: https://github.com/coryhouse/speaker-starter-kit
Hoping in 2021 the conferences are back!
