It's sad how many people I see making good money, creating their own prison.

Many people are implicitly saying this:

"I'd rather live a lifestyle I can barely afford than retire early and live off my investments."

Read "The Millionaire Next Door" and "Simple Path to Wealth"
And "retirement" need not mean sitting on the beach.

Retirement = freedom.

Retirement is freedom to contribute each day in a way that resonates most for you.

I know developers who "retired" in their 30s/40s. They need not work another day. They still work, but on their terms.

If you want to escape the 9-5, @mrmoneymustache blog is gold.

Also, @tferriss "The 4-Hour Work Week" is superb.
